IRISH WHEATEN BREAD

Ingredients:-

  • 225gms. Mortons Plain Flour
  • 350gms. Mortons Coarse Wholemeal
  • 1 Teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda
  • 2 Teaspoons Cream of Tartar
  • 2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 300mls. Milk

Sift the plain flour,bicarbonate of soda,cream of tartar and salt into a bowl. Stir in the Coarse Wholemeal add the milk and mix to a soft dough.
Turn onto a floured board,knead lightly,then shape into a large round about 5cms. thick.
Place on a floured baking tray, cut a deep cross on the top of the loaf and sprinkle with flour. Bake in a hot oven (220°C Gas Mark 7) for 25-30 minutes.
After baking place on a rack to cool.
